A Spike is a bounded experiment or research activity whose purpose is to produce enough evidence to make a decision under uncertainty. It should begin with an explicit question or hypothesis and have a clear exit criterion. Its output may include code, measurements, notes, prototypes, or findings, but production-ready software is not the objective. A Spike differs from a Proof of Concept, which primarily demonstrates feasibility; from a Prototype, which explores or communicates a possible solution; and from an implementation task, where the intended solution is already sufficiently known and the goal is to build it.
